Grade 8 Launches "The Giving Tree"

Eighth grade students are taking on the challenge of sharing love and joy through the Giving Tree Project. For this project we are partnering with The Community Center Shanghai to purchase, pack and deliver gifts to migrant children in Shanghai. Concordia has proudly participated in this service project for more than 25 years! This is the 4th year that the 8th grade has taken on the challenge. Students are in charge of raising awareness, advertising, packing the gifts, and raising the funds needed.  At the same time, we are working to create 200 personalized greeting cards, so that each child will receive a message of love and joy from Concordia! Eighth grade student leaders will also have the opportunity to deliver our gifts and meet the children.  

Our goal is to purchase and deliver gifts for 200 children. The cost for each gift is 275 RMB, so our total goal is 55,000 RMB - We need the help of the Concordia Community to reach this goal. We hope that families can find it in their hearts to support this special cause and help continue the Giving Tree tradition for Concordia.

When speaking about the Giving Tree Project to Concordia teachers, 8th Grader Chloe said, "The question asked when doing these projects is why. As people who are born with significantly better conditions, resources, and opportunities than most others, we believe that it is our duty to help those in need. For our 8th grade community, this project will give us a chance to show love and spread hope. This directly connects to our mission at Concordia, and we are very blessed to help people in need.” 

Eighth grade Team Leader and RSB Teacher Danielle Mizel shared, "For our 8th grade team, the Goal for the Giving Tree Project is not just to help those in need. This is a wonderful opportunity for our 8th graders to learn the value of caring for others.  We hope that through this project our students will understand that they can go out in the world and do good. They can challenge themselves to find ways to help make our world a brighter and better place.”
